Warm winters day. Sun shining. Perfect conditions to go down to old Henson Park and watch the mighty Bluebaggers, the Newtown Jets run around and drink some craft beers! The annual Beer, Footy & Food festival has fast become a tradition in Marrickville and the highlight game of the Jets season. 30 breweries, 3 games of park footy and the biggest home crowd of the season, makes for a great, fun day out.

There is activities for the kids from rides to being allowed on the ground to play during half time and in between games. About a dozen food trucks to feed the masses and of course the beers, but there was also wine and cider options as well. There’s a real community atmosphere to it which makes for a good day. There’s additional entertainment in some weird karaoke choir group who performed before the main game. Plus a good old raffle that’s held every week at Jets home games. All in all, it’s just a good, wholesome day out.

I tried to grab beers I haven’t tried, but with most of the breweries offering up their core ranges, there wasn’t that many that hadn’t already passed through my lips. Over the course of 6 hours I had:

Wayward Brewing’s – Pilsner

Glebe Brewing’s –  Immortal Pale Ale. A brand new brewery tipping their hat to legends of Inner West rugby league.

Nine Fingers –  Drop It Like It’s Hops. Good hoppy IPA

One Drop Brewing – Redcurrent, Raspberry and Rosella Sour. Bright red in colour with a strong flavour.

Shark Island Brewing – Kit Fitso. A odd little sour made from lemon, lime, cucumber and mint

Batch Brewing – Trippy Hippy Gold. Their hopped up golden ale

Batch Brewing –  Pale Ale. A classic pale that I haven had in years

Six Strings Brewing – Dark Red IPA

One Drop Brewing – XPA to finish the day off.

If you like beer and footy, mark this one down on your calendar for 2020 to come attend. Only $20 to get in and it’s a cashless event. It’s a really good, fun day out for family and friends. #weare8972
